blowing in the wind

blowing in the wind

how many times must a man look up
before he can see the sky?
yes, 'n' how many ears must one man have
before he can hear people cry?
yes, 'n' how many deaths will it take till he knows
that too many people have died?

the answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
the answer is blowin' in the wind

-bob dylan 'blowing in the wind'.

I want to dedicate my first post to all the warriors who have lost their battles with depression. the lyrics to this song are poignant as they are words my dad has held close to his heart after losing two brothers from suicide. my uncles were brilliant, creative, kind and gentle souls whose demons took their lives and haunt our family to this day.

according to the suicide prevention resource center, in 2016, 9.8 million people had serious thoughts of suicide, 2.8 million made a suicide plan and 1.1 million attempted suicide. this translates to one suicide death every 11.9 minutes, and one suicide attempt every 29 seconds.

with the heartbreaking loss this week of kate spade, now today the news of anthony bourdain, two legendary creatives whom I deeply admired, I felt the timing of launching my new blog would be the perfect platform to address the stigma attached to mental health. I have a personal connection, experiencing a lifelong struggle with anxiety, depression and especially post par-tum depression, which I mostly kept hidden until now.  there should not be apology or shame in suffering from what is a disease. we need to once and for all address this epidemic and I plan to continue this discussion more here in my beauty + wellness category.

I am a mama of three little birds, elizabeth, evan + emmett and married to my high school sweetheart. this blog is a journal of our life through pictures, recipes and stories. I write organically and 100% real. whether it be trying a new dish or design idea, sharing your struggles or just needing a laugh, I hope you will stay and grow with us.

be well and if you or anyone you know are in crisis please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline 1-800-273-8255
